Trials & Tribulations (Part 9)- Choosing A Four Year College
After careful thought and deliberation, I thought others would find this interesting about our battle with Asperger Syndrome. If anyone would like to post about their trials and tribulations, please leave a link so we can read your story. :)
This is written in the third person.
To help choose the right college for himself, M wrote a list of his needs that he requires.
Needs:
1- Curriculum offered at the college and the quality
2- What is required for admissions and a degree in his major
3- The supports (family, friends, tutoring, counseling, Disability Support Services, etc.)
4- On campus housing (washer and dryer in dorm, A/C, private bedroom and bathroom, etc.)
5- Size of college (prefer small) and location
6- Safety
M then visited several prospective colleges and toured them. He met with admissions counselors who gave him details about admissions requirements, scholarships, academic programs, housing, student activities, and more. M made sure he also went to an Open House that had opportunities for him to visit a class, speak with faculty, go on a student-guided tour, and even visit some of the dorms and apartments.
After visiting several colleges M wrote a list of the pros and cons of the colleges on a sheet of paper to enable him to visually see the differences. M talked with his parents about the positives and the negatives of each one. After discussing with his parents and careful consideration M chose a few colleges and started applying for transfer admission.
