Haircuts

MONK hated haircuts as a child. I hated them because it was total mayhem around here when we had to give him one. We would put them off as long as possible, but eventually the ka-ka would hit the fan big time when we just couldn’t stand the shaggy dog look for one more minute. I also got tired of the snide remarks from others about his wild hair, but that was just icing on the cake due to the fact he wasn’t toilet trained to boot. Needless to say, it took both hubby and I to wrestle MONK down and try to give him a haircut without poking him in the eye or cutting some of his ear off. MONK would scream and holler (I know the neighbors thought we were beating the poor kid to death), and wail like there was no tomorrow. Some how by sheer determination to get the job done, we accomplished the impossible . . . we gave him a haircut (well, sort of, but it was as good as we could do considering the circumstances). This horrendous ordeal finally got better as the years went slowly by and now he goes to the barber with no problems, but I will never forget giving him a haircut until the day I die. It was almost as bad as toilet training him.

Does your child tolerate haircuts?

Only with scissors. Usually he has to be in the bathtub with a lot of fun distractions. Sometimes he likes to watch in a little mirror. And it might take 2 or 3 sessions to get the job done. Sometimes I'd love to just get it done quickly with the buzzer-thing, but we haven't been able to manage it and the stupid thing pulls his hair...so we'll just stick with the scissors and I do the best I can. Sigh. lol!
