College Roommate Contracts

It is not uncommon for colleges to require students who will be sharing living space to sign roommate contracts. These contracts typically spell out expectations for acceptable behavior, along with roommate rights and responsibilities. Even if you are not required to sign a roommate agreement, these contracts can be an excellent tool for preventing misunderstandings about what is and is not acceptable behavior.

College roommate contracts really help cut down any problems that may arise. Having all the rules written up enables the student to visually see what they must do and helps special needs individuals learn how to get along with others which is something they need to do independently throughout their lives.

Julie-
I was lucky. My roommate and I got along great. I think with today's kids they don't because they are so self centered and do not know how to compromise. :(

I wonder if this would work well with my hubby? :)

I HATED living at college and I think it was partly because of my roommate. We didn't get along well. I'd known her from school. Classes and 2 sport teams, but living with someone is different!!! Oh well!

And, yes, we were probably BOTH self-centered!

Julie-
I think having a Roommate Contract is a good idea for everyone. I was suprised that a lot of colleges did not require it. I would! I'm having MONK send one to his new roommate prior to moving in. LOL!

I think it's a good idea. I never would have thought of it. It's good to know what the expectations are! Like wash your dishes because after a week they stink!!! Or no one is allowed to sleep in my bed!!!!
