Parents of special needs children each have their own pet peeve when dealing with the public school system about their child’s education. The problems are numerous to be sure, but which one is the BIGGEST?
• Getting the services that your child needs (ABA, Speech, OT, Daily Living Skills, PT, Social Skills, Assisted Technology, etc.)
• School and/or teacher(s) not following the IEP.
• Homework
• Bullying
• Personnel not trained.
• Obtaining a paraprofessional for your child.
• Getting the accommodations and modifications that your child needs.
• School and/or teacher(s) not collecting data and monitoring progress.
• Elopement
• Your child’s disruptive behavior.
• Transitioning from one grade to the next.
• School bus
• Transitioning out of school after graduation.
• Obtaining daily information about your child from the teacher(s)
• Your child is not making progress or is not doing well in school.
Etc.
What is your biggest problem?

Half of them!
-staff not adequately trained
-no IEP yet, 2 months into the school year
-no speech therapy
-only occaisional notes from the teacher, not daily communication
Math! I don't know if he doesn't get it or doesn't WANT to and I feel pressured because, well, I'm his teacher and I want to do good for him.
A combination of untrained staff with disruptive behavior. If the staff knew what to do, the behaviors could have been cut off at the pass the first week of school!
• Getting the services that your child needs (ABA, Speech, OT, Daily Living Skills, PT, Social Skills, Assisted Technology, etc.) *THEY ARE GETTING THERE FINALLY*
• School and/or teacher(s) not following the IEP.
• Homework
• Bullying
• Personnel not trained. *FINALLY STARTED*
• Getting the accommodations and modifications that your child needs. *ALL GOOD IN THEORY*
• School and/or teacher(s) not collecting data and monitoring progress. *THIS ONE IS MY PEEVE!*
• Obtaining daily information about your child from the teacher(s) *IT STARTS AND THEN THEY SLACK*
• Your child is not making progress or is not doing well in school. EDUCATIONALLY.. YES.... SOCIALLY... HITTING A WALL......

i'd have to say the bus, keeping the bar raised by thinking creatively about how to reach potentail, and getting them to acknowledge sensory issues within the school day.
thanks for asking outside of school it's meds!
