The Dreaded Phone Call

Last winter I went down to Florida to help my mother take care of my dad who had a massive stroke. Meanwhile, Hubby and MONK were home with the cats. MONK had to go to college and Hubby travels quite extensively so MONK was home alone most of the time. Early one morning my cell phone rings and it’s MONK. In the background I hear a police radio and my stomach dropped to the floor. Yes, that dreaded phone call that all parents must face has just arrived and I’m 12 hours by car away from home and I can’t do anything to help. MONK assured me that he was alright, but he had an accident. He hit a patch of black ice and slid 180 degrees around and toppled over into a ditch and landed on the right side of the car. He had to get his stuff and climb out the passenger’s side window. Thank God some Good Samaritan stopped and helped poor MONK and contacted the police and got a tow truck. Of course Hubby was out of town (San Antonio, TX) for work and MONK had to deal with all the mess. The Jeep was totaled so MONK has to drive my mom mobile (van) to college from now on. How demeaning and utterly embarrassing that must be, but at least he has a vehicle to drive. Hubby on the other hand got a new car. All I got was a bad case of diarrhea from stress.

While the car situation sucks, and I'm totally glad MONK is unharmed, I just can't stop laughing at your last sentence. LOL!!!

Rebecca- It's been a really bad year. MONK totaled the jeep and my dad died. Then I was dx with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) skin cancer and had to deal with 2 surgeries. Now I'm having very heavy periods with clotting. Today I found out that I have to get a breast biopsy. Oh, what joy it is getting old!
