Addicted to Asperger Syndrome Books
That old song, “Addicted to Love” by Robert Palmer (just insert books where it says love) comes to mind when I think about my obsession that has totally gotten out of hand.
I used to be a fanatic AS reader and I read any book on that subject that I could get my hands on. Not only was I mentally addicted, but physically addicted as well. Tolerance had built up over time and more and more Aspie books were needed to achieve the desired effect that I craved and needed to exist. One horrific day, I finally overdosed and was put in rehab. I'm currently undergoing therapy, but it has not stopped my compulsive obsession with AS books.
First, withdrawal hit with a vengeance. I got the shakes, chills, severe aches and pains, difficulty sleeping, agitation, and even depression. Avoiding AS books was hard, extremely painful at times. Hubby even had to take my credit cards away so I couldn’t buy any more books on Amazon. The city library was notified of my addiction as well and they are following my doctor’s orders to the T and will not allow me to check out any AS books until further notice. Grrrrrrrrr.
Like they say, time heals all wounds, so I thought and I was doing fine, until Mara reminded me of my addiction, bless her heart, and I totally couldn’t help myself. I looked up the books she recommended on Amazon and the euphoric feeling I get when I find a new Aspie book hit me like a ton of bricks. The intense rush and endless boundless energy was coursing through my body bringing an over stimulation of the pleasure center of my brain. The powerful sensations were overwhelming and made me want to cry out in sheer joy. Of course I put a few books on “My Wish List” hoping that one day I can obtain these in due course, but alas, it must wait.
Hmmmmmm, my son has a Debit card. Maybe I can use that to make an order at Amazon?
Addicted To Love (Books)
The lights are on, but you're not home
Your mind is not your own
Your heart sweats, your body shakes
Another kiss is what it takes
You can't sleep, you can't eat
There's no doubt, you're in deep
Your throat is tight, you can't breathe
Another kiss is all you need
Ohh oohh
you like to think that you're immune to the stuff...oh yeah
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
you know you're gonna have to face it
you're addicted to books
You see the signs, but you can't read
You're runnin' at a different speed
You heart beats in double time
Another kiss and you'll be mine,
A one track mind
You can't be saved
oblivion is all you crave
If there's some left for you
You don't mind if you do
Ohh oohh
You like to think that you're immune to the stuff
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough,
you know you're gonna have to face it
you're addicted to books
Might as well face it, you're addicted to books (5x)
The lights are on, but you're not home
Your will is not your own
You're heart sweats and teeth grind
Another kiss and you'll be mine
Ohh oohh
you like to think that you're immune to the stuff
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
you know you're gonna have to face it
you're addicted to books
Might as well face it, you're addicted to books (8x)

LOL You fell off the wagon. Hop back in...as soon as you finish your books. :)
LOL, that song is great :)
Debbie-
You know how much I LOVE to read. I must get it from my mother who was a librarian. :)
lonestar-
Guess what song was stuck in my mind all day? And yes, I did put books in the lyrics instead of love. LOL!
