Getting the Best for Your Child with Autism : An Expert's Guide to Treatment by Bryna Siegel
Limited preview of the book
The title of this book really jumps out to parents that have a child with autism. Getting the best for your child with ASD is EXACTLY what a parent wants, but how to achieve that is the biggest undertaking parents must face of their entire lives. It is also something that they desperately need help with.
Mara first introduced me to this wonderful book and I was lucky to obtain it at our local city library.
When parents find out that their child has autism it is overwhelming and trying to figure out what treatment that is best for their child is just too much for anyone to comprehend. Bryna Siegel makes things easier for parents. She informs parents how to obtain an accurate assessment of their child’s strengths and weaknesses so they can use this information to get the help their child needs. Finding out how your child sees the world and learns is vital so you will know how to best educate your child. Parents are also guided through the complex list of treatment options that are available for children with ASD. The awe-inspiring task of figuring out which treatment(s) is best for your child is dissected through various tables in the book. The treatment(s) that match your child’s unique set of special needs are targeted and you will know which intervention(s) would best suit your child.
Armed with this information parents must then know what their legal rights are and what their child is entitled to. Byrna discusses this and also how to ensure that your child’s rights are protected and honored.
Advocating for your child is extremely hard, but having this book will give you the upper hand in knowing your rights and what resources are available for your child’s specific needs so they can reach to their fullest potential.

Sounds like a great book; it is so overwhelming when you are starting out and trying to figure out your options.
Trish-
It's a fantastic book for newly diagnosed children whose parents are totally overwhelmed. I wish this book was out when my son was little. :)
I am currently reading this book and I actually just put it down right before checking out your blog :) I am finding it very helpful, especially since my daughter was recently diagnosed and will be heading off to pre-school in the fall.
