Trials and Tribulations (Part 22)- Welcome Week at College
After careful thought and deliberation, I thought others would find this interesting about our battle with Asperger Syndrome. If anyone would like to post about their trials and tribulations, please leave a link so we can read your story. :)
This is written in the third person.
Welcome Week is a week-long series of social and educational events that takes place August 23 to September 1, 2014 at UMBC. Welcome Week will help you meet both new and continuing students and learn more about the many opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. It is your chance to get to know student organizations, find out more about UMBC’s recreational programs, sign up for club sports, and meet other new students.
Welcome Week is a continuation of Summer Orientation to UMBC. There is no way to give you all of the information you need to be successful at UMBC in one day, so Welcome Week is designed to follow up on the Summer Orientation day. Over the course of the week, students will have the opportunity to learn more about campus and what a life as a UMBC student will be like. Students will be assigned to a Woolie (welcome week leader), who will serve as a guide and resource for them during the Welcome Week program. Woolies represent a variety of majors, come from various parts of Maryland and other states, and are involved in a wide assortment of campus life activities. The Woolie will review the entire schedule of events with the students and meet up with the group prior to each session so the students can go to the events together. The Woolie will be there to help students get acclimated to UMBC and able to answer any questions they may have about UMBC.
Welcome Week- a few highlights from the week
There are close to 100 events scheduled for Welcome Week that the students can choose to attend.
Getting M to actively participate in Welcome Week was rather arduous, but prior to Move In Day his parents prepared him what to expect and how important it was for him to go to the activities. M went to several Welcome Week activities. He later commented that the activities were okay and his parents somehow pried out of him that he had not made any friends.
