The Dreaded Skid Marks

In motoring terms, a skid mark is the mark a tire makes when a vehicle wheel stops rolling and slides or spins on the surface of the road. More generally, any solid which moves against another can cause visible marks, and is an important aspect of trace evidence analysis in forensic engineering.

In mom terms, a skid mark is an elongated stain in the rear of one's underwear caused by rubbing of the underwear on an insufficiently wiped anus after excrementing.

I think you know which one I am referring too. Those dreaded skid marks that seem to be inside all boy’s underwear and no matter how much bleach you use or how hard your scrub, they are forever a reminder that your son cannot wipe his butt worth beans. I don’t care what Billy Mays says, OxiClean Laundry Stain Remover does not get out all stains. I’ve tried it and the feces stain remains.

Why is it that boys have such a hard time wiping their butts after they have a BM? Why do boys have trouble doing this? Is this task difficult to perform? Is this a sensory thing?

Am I expecting too much from my ASD son?

I asked my son about this problem when he was in middle school and he responded with, “When blind people go to the bathroom, how do they know when they are done wiping their butt?”

Yes, a typical Asperger response if you ask me. Still my question has not been answered and I wonder if other parents have noticed this as well with their ASD son?

As you can guess, this phenomenon has plagued me for years and I am perplexed as why this is so hard for boys to do. My son was not able to perform this monumental feat well until he was in high school and then the skid marks were replaced with something else entirely . . . nocturnal emission.

How I miss the dreaded skid marks!

I am so glad I'm not the only one dealing with this. I'm not as bold as you to put it out that way, but I hear you ;-) My AS son is 9 years old and God knows I wish he would grow out of this. Then I think about how grown males have a problem similar to this. I just don't get it. I've tried to bleach those underwear til they almost got a whole in them.

Growing in Wisdom-
I just don't get it either. Why do they have such a hard problem with it?

Enjoy the skid marks while you can. The other is even more unpleasant. LOL!

Oh the wonders of skid marks. As bad as they are at home, they a re far worse to take to school/to a public laundromat. In those scenarios you run into difficult moments like these:
You're doing your laundry for the first time in two weeks, when you spot a guy you've always found intriguing standing by an empty washing machine. You maneuver your way over to him and begin to place your items into the machine. He notices you dropped something and reaches down to grab it for you, saying something totally original and swoon-inducing such as, "Uh, I think you dropped this." And you smile and respond with the entirely witty and original, "oh yeah, thanks." But then as you go to take it from him you both reach down and realize it is a pair of grungy underwear with skid marks. At this moment, your brain screams, insist it isn't yours! So you say something like, "Oh, that must belong to himself" as if yto suggest that there is a hunkish and brainy but rather unhygenic dude currently awaiting your return in your dorm room. And although this does get you out of the nasty situation of claiming skid-marked underwear, it also clearly marks you're taken despite the fact that you aren't, and suggests that you are so whipped that you'll do your beau's laundry.
Yeah...skidmarks...ugh

I'm afraid that the solution is to look at the paper after wiping ... yeah, gross I know ... but he does seem to take some perverse pleasure in announcing 'got a bit more' and 'all clean now' ....
He also stand by the toilet to wipe, this seems to be more effective.
(How do I know this? because I still get called in there to witness it, thankfully he is still only 7 ... toilet trained at 5 years 4 months and then started school at 6 and had a relapse of almost the whole academic year, and has been sorted again for about 6 months ...)
