Bedtime Routines

Dr. Benjamin Spock got me going on bedtime routines for my son way back when he was a baby and we continued that practice as he was growing up. I can honestly say, old Dr. Spock was right, that establishing a bedtime routine is essential and necessary for children and we never had any problems with our son going to bed and not staying there.

So how do you start a bedtime routine with your child? Here are a few links that might be helpful:

Our routine always starts with brushing teeth and putting on pajamas. This happens between 6:45-7:00 every night. (kids go to sleep early here as they wake up at the crack of dawn!). After that we nestle down in bed for a bedtime story - often after I (or Hubby) tell the story Bug will tell us one as well. Bean doesn't do that part, but she always cuddles her "puppy" and tells us all the reasons she loves him, LOL!!! Kisses, cuddles, and bed.

Bug goes to sleep with the light on... we turn it off later.

Not a big routine, but it works for us. :)

Potty, bath, jammies, brush teeth, story, bed. Usually we use a 10 minute timer for story/snuggle time. When the timer goes off, mommy says goodnight and leaves. Bedtime is 8, so we start around 7:15 with the bath if I'm going to let him play.
